When I first spoke to Lauren and Warren, they said not only had they been attracted to me by my photography, but also by the fact that they were big fans of The Smiths like myself. When I met up with them and Warren was wearing a Morrissey T-Shirt I knew we were going to get along just fine.
For their engagement shoot I knew we had to do something with The Smiths as the main theme so what better place than Salford Lads Club, made famous by Stephen Wright’s picture of the group stood outside the front door and which also featured in the video for, ‘Stop me if you think you’ve heard this one before.’
What I wasn’t expecting was the level of access we got thanks to Leslie who is one of the team there. They have a Smiths room inside the club for the pilgrims to look at but Leslie also let us wander freely around the club, which is a phenomenal building with some incredible features, including a full boxing gym.
I loved every second of this shoot and loved spending more time with Lauren and Warren. I can’t wait for their wedding in August, I’m expecting a glut of NHS spectacles and gladioli.
